Conspicuous consumption

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conspicuous_consumption I just read the first half of the article. Bang! If you still thought that people had moral standards and innate values, here is the wiki article to show that people are just relativizing machines who desperately try to increase their social status. Humans are experts in justifying why the shit they buy will make them happier even if with some minimal self-analysis, most could discover that the subconscious is just trying to improve their social standing. Ah, the social standing! By definition, it is what OTHERS think of you. Yet, it is one of the things we continuously try to improve. It is great to be nice to people, do favors to them. Both happy. But to incite envy in all the other talking monkeys by giving out money? So that you can get laid with a slightly higher probability with those who adhere to the same archaic system of value judgment? Yes. This is what we are. Our ticket to a pussy is a powerful and impractical ...

Who gets the prize

In science, most people are driven by competition. The reason they spend 12+ hours in their offices/labs is to improve their reputation within the community. They want to be the best at answering questions. They want to be the ones who the community unanimously acknowledges as the best. Healthy, caveman-derived social status improvement loop. I want to emphasize that these people do it for their ego ultimately and not for the adancement of sciences. When an expert chose the field that he became an expert in, he/she chose one that seemed morally/ethically superior. But once in the field, the ego takes over and an anxious race to the intellectual peak is begun. Full of challenges, fueled by the adrenalin boost of competitive engagement, the race to the top is on. ___but ever so silenty, the branch of human knowledge that the researcher is advancing, gets richer. The field itself is feeding on the human brainpower. As a meme occupying the minds of many able scientists, not caring ...

How I make love

It is about being present. Losing all expectations and the meta. Just the pairs of eyes and the bodies. Giving a soothing caress and letting my body tell hers that she is safe and loved. Explore her skin and appreciate its texture. Maybe play with it and smile about it. Be with her, here and now, flow with her reactions and sense her desires. Honesty and care. Not talking to her unless she needs to hear that my voice is hers too. Falling in love with the touch and smell of her. Feel her desires. Let her be herself. Let her be the lone human who needs to be loved and be the one who will complete her. And love her. Let the body tell her what is loved about her. All the things. One by one, the hair, the shoulder, the soft, round belly, the smell, the smile, the goosebumps. Tell her everything, just no words, the body is the channel. Feel how her acceptance calms me and makes me feel safe. Be grateful for her trust and reward her with more honesty. Remain curious and inspired by her body b...

Online dating

OKCupid. Yeah, so I wanted to expose the conundrum between trying to win the potential woman of your life and just taking it easy while also playing the 'I ignore you' value game. On the one hand we have the unstoppable enthousiasm over a new person whose profile we just checked out and thought: wow, now She is really different and so cool and still not too psycho, and I can already feel I love her! I should really send her some super cool message, like, witty yet funny, not too pushy but half-kinky, original but not too aggressive, wow so many things to consider... let's start with some lines about how I love two of the bands I know of her music list. Done. Not, wait, I should include that somehow in my next sentence where i'll talk how I've also been to Latin America and round off the sentence with some slick argentinian cursing. Wait, maybe not the rude one, otherwise she'll get frightened. Allright, this one is better. But it's so lacking juice, damn,...

What is consciousness?

new ideas to the subject: 1. Consciousness in the brain is found in the "ARAS", or Ascending Reticular Activating System. It is a set of brain areas in the ancient part of our brain (forebrain and midbrain) that regulate the sleep/wake cycle. Consciousness is the control of attention. You are attention. All else is just your brain doing its thing, sending thoughts and stimuli to your attention . It is you, who choses what to listen to and what to pay attention to. Everything else a zombie could do. Here are some pieces to the puzzle of consciousness: 4 necessary conditions for consciousness: Store info Process info Independence (choice) Integrated (unified) 5+1 properties: (from integrated information theory) it exists subjective, present, intrinsic has a structure (Integrated?) Specific Unified Axiom of exclusion ( definite ). It has borders, it is limited. my opinion about consciousness one year ago...

Climate change is real but unavoidable - video script II.

Layer I. Climate change is unavoidable. It is already happening and much more climate change will occur. Because of the usefulness of fossil fuels, we will continue to burn them until there is none left. The only effective way of stopping that is by destroying civilization as we know it. And even then, the climate would continue to warm. It is not a big deal though, a bit warmer climate is actually OK. Layer II. I. Earth is warming and it will continue to do so. Human carbon dioxide emissions are responsible for it. The climate takes time to respond to increasing Carbon Dioxide Concentrations. If humanity disappeared from Earth tomorrow, the climate would still continue to warm. But humanity continues to put out ever more carbon dioxide diligently. Every year more than the year before. Not even environmentalists want to change that as it is simply impossible. Humanity has a silent agreement on burning ever more fossil fuels. The fossil fuel burning will go on for l...

Ah, those flights were so exhausting!

How the fuck is that that people can legitimately complain about their long plane trips and various layovers? When you are traveling, you are just sitting. You are not doing anything that is tiring, the whole point of a flight is that you should remain seated in one spot for hours! And the layovers! They do demand an extraordinary cognitive effort! I mean you have to get through gates and navigate among air conned corridors and read various info panels. And most of all, you have to fuckin walk! I mean some part of the way. Admit, that you rode the moving walkway! First time you saw it, you were like, naaah, I can walk! Jesus, they want us to stop walking, next thing they are gonna charge us for breathing air! But then, second or third time around you convinced yourselves: OK, I can take the moving walkway, I better not be late for my flight! Next time around it was obvious that you just want to shave off your airport transit time, so of course you took it. And there you are, sta...
